Developer

You’re welcome to apply, but we’ve moved from “actively looking” to “always interested”. Given the work you’d be investing in the Github exercise below, you might want to get in touch with your resume first to see whether we think it’s worth your effort.

Details

Ruby Developer at our Melbourne, Australia office. Assistance moving here (relocation and visa sponsorship if necessary) will be provided for exceptional candidates.

Who we’re looking for

The ideal candidate:

  • has at least two years of experience developing web applications in production
  • is comfortable with at least two languages, one of which is a modern dynamic scripting language (Ruby, Python, Perl, Tcl, etc)
  • is a full-stack web developer
  • has knowledge of computer science fundamentals
  • is proactive and can work without being micromanaged
  • believes strongly in self-improvement by reading books, blogs, papers, and acting on that knowledge

Why work here:

  • we have a small team managed by engineers
  • we rotate as a team between a wide variety of projects: no one gets stuck as a 2nd-class citizen on a legacy project
  • we are constantly experimenting with new tech: recent projects have used Backbone, Coffeescript, Chef, etc
  • 20% time for (amongst other things) your personal self-improvement
  • we contribute back to projects we believe in like Less Wrong, Overcoming Bias, and the Khan Academy
  • casual, open working space with flexible hours

What we do:

  • internal web projects
  • projects from our larger business group (Investling)
  • client projects, generally in the web space.

We take on projects that are more than a pretty CRUD interface to a database — in the past we’ve worked on truck routing, production scheduling, recursively self-improving artificially intelligent paperclip manufacturing robots, etc).

Salary:

$80-110k Australian dollars per annum. We’re open to negotiation if you’re looking for something outside that range.
(If you’re worth less than $80k you might consider our other position.)

Next Steps:

Contact jobs@trikeapps.com with:

  • the md5sum of the string “I am not a robot” (sorry, 90%+ of recent job applicants seem not to have read the job description – this is a quick and easy way to make sure you have)
  • your response to http://github.com/tricycle/job-application
  • your resumé
    • choose an appropriate file format for your resume – we’ll draw conclusions about you from the tools you use

NOTE: If you apply for this job without providing strong evidence that you’ve actually read this posting and its requirements, you will not receive a reply.
