Junior
You’re welcome to apply, but we’ve moved from “actively looking” to “always interested”. Given the work you’d be investing in the Github exercise below, you might want to get in touch with your resume first to see whether we think it’s worth your effort.

About TrikeApps
At TrikeApps we create websites and apps that are great to use. Our office is fun while being very productive. We’re growing and we need a Junior Programmer to join our team. Please visit trikeapps.com to find out more about us and the type of projects we work on.
We’re looking for someone who:
- knows their computer science fundamentals (learned formally at University or self taught)
- has produced code they’re proud of in at least two programming languages
- is confident in two operating systems
- loves reading about what they do (blogs, books, essays)
- has heard of some of ruby, python, erlang, smalltalk, lisp, haskell, ocaml, prolog – and reckon you know at least one cool language I’ve left off of this list
- is able to work in Melbourne (we won’t sponsor you from overseas for this role)
- a bonus but not essential: you are comfortable with XHTML/CSS, modern JavaScript libraries and unobtrusive JavaScript
- a bonus but not essential: you have code accepted into one or more open source projects
Apply to jobs@trikeapps.com.au
- send us your cover letter and resumé
- include in your letter the md5sum of the string “I am not a robot” (if you don’t, I reserve the right not to respond to even your long and heartfelt application)
- choose an appropriate file format for your documents – we’ll draw conclusions about you from the tools you use
- email your response to http://github.com/tricycle/job-application
- let us know a good time to call you to discuss your application
- please no recruiters, we know you are different and your company is awesome, but those other recruiters have spoiled it for you
More detail:
What we do:
Internal web projects, projects from our larger business group (Investling) and client projects, generally in the web space. We also occasionally get other interesting client work (like truck routing, production scheduling, recursively self-improving artificially intelligent paperclip manufacturing robots, etc.).
Work conditions:
We’re open to flexible hours, but this is a full time onsite position. We’re owned and managed by programmers, and we’re pretty relaxed.
Tools:
git, capistrano (and others), Pivotal tracker, behaviour driven development with RSpec and Cucumber, daily builds, design and user experience are a critical part of our development process.
Salary:
Remuneration will be commensurate with your abilities, and we’re open to negotiation, but you’ll have to work to convince us that you’re a good match for the position if you’re worth less than $45k. (If you’re worth more than about $70k you probably want to apply for our other job.)
Why?:
We’re growing, not churning. We’re building to a technical team of six programmers, sysadmin, and programmer/boss/interference-runner (and some other non-tech people, all of whom are lovely, but who might be less relevant to your choices today).
